There are three types of attenuator according to their structures: Female to male attenuator,flange type attenuator and inline attenuator.
Flange type attenuator also called bulkhead attenuator, it utilizes the air gap between two connectors to achieve the optical attenuation. It is simple, low-cost and compact.
Flange attenuator are recommended for applications where return loss is not a concern nor is absolute attenuation value.
